Club Car has built four common platforms: the DS, the Precedent, the Onward and the Tempo. The DS (1981–2014) is the square-bodied original. The Precedent replaced it in 2004 with the rounded body Club Car still builds on. The Onward (2017 onward) is the modern consumer cart, and the Tempo is its fleet-oriented sibling. Body panels, windshields, light kits and lift kits are platform-specific; wheels, tires and most bolt-on accessories interchange.
How to identify your Club Car
Start with the body. The DS has a distinctly squared-off front cowl and a boxier profile. The Precedent, Onward and Tempo all share the rounded modern shape, which makes them harder to separate at a glance — that is where the serial number comes in. What changes between platforms
Club Car DS (1981–2014)
Built for more than three decades, so model year matters more on a DS than on any other cart. Body materials, front cowl design, electrical systems and brakes all changed over its life. Electric DS carts are frequently 36V. Shop Club Car DS parts.
Club Car Precedent (2004 onward)

Club Car Onward (2017 onward)

Club Car Tempo
Shares the modern platform but is aimed at fleet and course use, which usually means higher hours and faster wear on seats, tires and batteries. Shop Tempo parts.
What interchanges
Because golf carts use a common 4-on-4 bolt pattern, wheels and tires move freely between all four platforms — and between brands. Mirrors, cup holders and most roof-mounted audio are effectively universal.
What does not interchange: body panels, windshields, light kits and lift kits. Order those by model and year, every time.
Charging and voltage
Club Car uses its own charging receptacle, and it changed between generations — a charger for a Precedent will not necessarily plug into a DS. Confirm your voltage first by counting batteries: six 6-volt is 36V; six 8-volt or four 12-volt is 48V. Then buy a Club Car charger with the right plug. If your cart has been converted to lithium, it needs a lithium-profile charger.
