As a rule, a tire up to about 18 inches tall fits a stock golf cart with no lift kit. From roughly 20 inches upward you need a minimum 3 inch lift. That single number — the tire’s overall height, not the wheel size — is what decides whether a set bolts straight on or rubs.
It is worth being precise about this, because the wheel diameter people quote (10 inch, 12 inch, 14 inch) tells you almost nothing about clearance on its own. A 14 inch wheel can carry an 18 inch tire or a 23 inch tire.
The clearance rule, from our own product specs
We checked the published fitment note on every wheel and tire combo we sell that carries one. The relationship is consistent, with no exceptions:

Tires around 19 inches sit in a genuine grey area. We do not have a consistent published rule at that height, and we would rather say so than guess — on a 19 inch tire, measure your own cart before ordering.
How do I read a golf cart tire size?
Golf cart tires are written two different ways, and mixing them up is the usual reason someone orders the wrong set.
Imperial: 22x11-10
Read it straight off: 22 inches tall, 11 inches wide, on a 10 inch wheel. The first number is the one that decides your lift requirement.
Metric: 205/30-14
Here the height is not printed — you calculate it. 205 is the tread width in millimetres, 30 is the sidewall height as a percentage of that width, and 14 is the wheel diameter in inches. The overall height is:
wheel diameter + 2 × (width × aspect ÷ 100) ÷ 25.4
So a 205/30-14 works out at roughly 19 inches, and a 205/65-10 at about 20 inches. Note what that means: a 10 inch wheel on a 205/65 tire needs a lift, while a 14 inch wheel on a 205/30 tire may not. The wheel size genuinely does not tell you.
What happens if I fit oversized tires without a lift?
The tire contacts the body or the suspension — usually not when the cart is standing still in a driveway, but under load, over a bump, or at full steering lock. That means the rubbing starts later, once you have already fitted them. You also lose acceleration and hill-climbing, because a taller tire raises the effective gearing, and your speedometer, if fitted, will read low.
How do I check my own cart?
Measure the gap between the top of the current tire and the underside of the body, with the cart on level ground and loaded as you normally use it. Then turn the wheels fully both ways and look at the clearance at the front of the wheel well, which is usually tighter than the top. Compare that gap to the difference in height between your current tire and the one you are considering.
So which set should I buy?
If your cart is stock and you want the simplest path, stay at or below 18 inches. We group these as 14 inch combos for non-lifted carts, and the same split exists for 12 inch and 10 inch. Every combo ships mounted and inflated.
