Lithium or lead-acid?
Lithium costs more up front and repays it in weight, lifespan and zero maintenance: no watering, no terminal corrosion, no equalising charge, and usable capacity stays high as the pack discharges. Lead-acid remains the lower-cost entry point and is a sensible choice for light, occasional use, but it needs regular watering, adds significant weight, and delivers noticeably less range as it ages. If you use your cart most weeks, lithium is usually the better long-run purchase.
36V or 48V — how to tell
Count the batteries and check their voltage. Six 6-volt batteries make a 36V cart; six 8-volt or four 12-volt batteries make a 48V cart. Getting this wrong is the single most common ordering mistake, because a charger for the wrong voltage will not correctly charge — or safely connect to — your pack. Choosing a charger
Match three things: voltage (36V or 48V), connector style (Club Car, EZGO and Yamaha each use different plugs), and battery chemistry — a lithium pack needs a lithium-profile charger, not a lead-acid one. Modern chargers shut off automatically when the pack is full, so leaving one connected overnight is normal and safe.
Getting the most life out of a pack
Charge after every meaningful use rather than waiting for the pack to run low, keep lead-acid cells topped up with distilled water, and keep terminals clean and tight. Storing a cart for the season? Bring the pack to full charge first and follow the manufacturer's storage guidance for your chemistry.
